He was born in South Africa but when he lost his dad, 

His family moved to England to ensure life would not stay bad. 

 

And when he lost his mother (A tragedy he needed least) 

He was sent to a boarding house by his guardian who was a priest. 

 

There he spent his childhood and increased his linguistic abilities, 

He even created his own languages just as a fun activity. 

 

He fought in WW1 which was a horrible event, 

And when he caught trench fever, back to home he went. 

 

He took a job as a professor teaching languages galore, 

But began to doubt if his job was what he wanted anymore. 

 

He then became an author, writing classics like the Hobbit, 

His series Lord of the Rings has millions of copies made of it. 

 

So who is this gentleman? This genius that we mean, 

Is none other than the beloved J. R. R. Tolkien!
