J. R. R. Tolkien, you may have heard of him. If not, you can find his name on the cover of over 200 million beloved books such as the legendary “The Hobbit”, “The Lord of the Rings”, “The Silmarillion”, “Beren and Luthien”, “The Fall of Gondolin” and many more.

J. R. R. Tolkien is my chosen notable that I plan to research for this year. J. R. R. Tolkien is an excellent choice for a notable person for many reasons but first, here is some background information on Tolkien.

J. R. R. Tolkien was born on January 3rd, 1892 and had quite a rough upbringing. He lost both his parents early on in his life, he lived in a boarding house where he showed remarkable talent for languages, mastering Latin and Greek but he was banned from seeing his first love by his guardian, Father Francis. He fought in WW1 and even fought in the battle of Somme, one of the largest and bloodiest battles of the war. He eventually became a professor at the renowned Oxford University. From there he began dabbling in writing and his book “The Hobbit” became an instant success. Following “The Hobbit” Tolkien wrote a number of other books including the famous “Lord of the Rings” series. He eventually died on September 2nd, 1973 and is still heralded as the creator of one of the greatest fantasy worlds of all time.

J. R. R. Tolkien is notable for many reasons. He had a gifted mind from a young age, learning over 35 different languages throughout the course of his life, and even creating many of his own. This passion led him to becoming a professor at one of the most prestigious universities of all of England. Another notable and extraordinary thing about him was the effort of the world building around his books. The world of “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” is layered and layered with information and events that make his world feel real. For instance, Tolkien created many events that took place in the world of “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” that are only mentioned a few times in each of the books to create a deeper history. His linguistic skills also helped him to create many different languages for the book which further deepened the lore.

In conclusion, my chosen notable is J. R. R. Tolkien. He is notable for his duty in WW1, his genius in languages, his job as a professor at one of the most prestigious universities in England and his creativity in creating many beloved novels and one of the most famous fantasy worlds of all time.
